It’s not hard to see why the Samsonite Leather Flapover Briefcase is so popular for businessmen and professionals working in a formal environment, especially attorneys such as lawyers.
It incorporates a minimalistic classic and elegant style that plays it safe. In my review, I’ll be exploring whether it has substance to match its flash.

Design & Craftsmanship
There’s no denying that the Samsonite Leather Flapover is as sleek as it gets. Its box shape classic design and silver hardware on black leather makes it a perfect fit for professionals no matter if you’re a male or female.
It has a discrete style, but that’s a major part of its appeal. Your peers will still take notice, and you’ll likely receive a few compliments on it.
The briefcase is well constructed with rigid seams and sturdy hardware. The leather is not as high quality as similarly priced Kenneth Cole leather briefcases, but it’s still fine nonetheless.
The silver metal hardware is thick and sturdy, and well connected with the leather. The clasp for the flapover indicates that there’s a key lock, but it’s just for show.
I really like the grey and dark grey chequered walls of the interior as I feel it adds a subtle flare to the otherwise basic interior. Another good feature is that the interior is hard beneath the leather lining, which adds extra support for its contents.
From the pictures, it seems as though you can compress the briefcase so that it becomes slimmer in depth, but it has a hard type structure that maintains its shape, so this is not possible.
This is not the type of briefcase that you can carry underarm because of its 5.5” depth. You would carry it via its thick padded handle, which feels comfortable and sturdy, allowing for a good grip.
It also includes an all-black and fully leather shoulder strap with a slightly padded shoulder support area. It does look classy and complements well with the rest of the briefcase, but it gets rather uncomfortable when you’re carrying a heavy load.
From the outside and even in pictures, it seems as though this leather briefcase can hold a lot. However, that’s not the case.
The nature of it’s hard shell design doesn’t allow the briefcase to expand much, so it’s difficult to fit in irregular shaped objects such as mugs, though the leather and structure will relax over time which helps.
At the back, there’s a large slim zip compartment for quick access items providing they’re not too bulky, and there’s an insert for a telescopic handle from a rolling briefcase or luggage case.
Inside, there are four compartments altogether, all of varying sizes. The very first and third pockets are slim and designed for holding paperwork or thin books.
The first main large compartment has three pen holders, two small pockets and two card holders. There’s also additional space to hold other items in this area.
The second main large compartment is to hold a laptop up to 15.4” in screen size, though it’s probably a better idea to carry a smaller size laptop for two reasons.
First, there is not a lot of padding to properly protect a bigger laptop should you accidentally drop the bag, and second, if you’re carry a few books and documents already, it will be difficult to fit a larger laptop inside without it being too bulky.
If you end up overstuffing the briefcase, then you’ll find that you won’t be able to close the flap, nor carry it around effectively using the handle or shoulder strap.
The Samsonite Leather Flapover Briefcase is definitely one of most sleek leather briefcases that I’ve come across, but it does come with its limitations such as its inability to hold much more beyond a laptop and several documents/books.
To be fair, it’s not designed for holding your entire office inside, but rather for those who like to travel light. This leather briefcase is ideal for attorneys and lawyers and would make an excellent impression inside of a courtroom, or a business meeting.
